Alterations in response to somatic pain associated with anaesthesia. III. The effect of hydroxydione.

چکیده

IN a previous publication, the author reported that an increased sensitivity to pain followed the use of small doses of thiopentone and pentobarbitone (Dundee, 1960), thus confirming the findings of Clutton-Brock (1960). It was suggested that this anti-analgesic action of thiopentone was due to low concentrations of the drug in the brain and the phenomenon was also demonstrated in the postoperative period following moderate and large doses of the drug. On occasions it persisted for as long as five hours after injection of the thiopentone. Clutton-Brock (1960) has also stated that the anti-analgesic action of the barbiturates is not shared by hydroxydione. This brief communication reports and discusses data which substantiate his findings.

Alterations in response to somatic pain associated with anaesthesia. XIX: Studies with the drugs used in neuroleptanaesthesia.

The effects of some intravenously administered drugs on sensitivity to tibial pressureinduced somatic pain were investigated in a controlled, double-blind trial. The drugs included those commonly employed in neuroleptanaesthesia (fentanyl, phenoperidine and droperidol), standard opiates (morphine, diamorphine), and a standard tranquillizer (diazepam). The analgesics were given in what are commo...

The effect of hypernatraemia on ketamine anaesthesia in male rats

We studied the effects of a single ketamine injection in an experimental model of chronic hypernatraemia in rats. Three groups, each of 20 male Wistar rats were chosen for the experiment; the control group was given water and the test groups were given 1% (group 1) and 2% (group 2) NaCl solutions for two weeks. All groups were fed with the same diet, containing about 0.5% salt. Other living con...

Alterations in response to somatic pain associated with anaesthesia. V. The effect of promethazine.

ALTHOUGH it has never been claimed that the phenothiazines have an analgesic action comparable to that of the opiates, it is frequently inferred that they have some effect on pain. They are widely used to potentiate analgesic drugs in the management of intractable pain and have enjoyed great popularity in the treatment of the terminal stages of malignant disease. Apart from their anti-emetic ef...

Objective: This prospective study performed to evaluate blood biomarkers alterations with administration of propofol for maintenance of anaesthesia during long oral and maxillofacial surgeries in order to estimate the risk of Propofol Infusion Syndrome (PRIS). This rare syndrome often would be happened in long duration or high dose infusion which is characterized by the combination of metabol...

ORG 21465, a new water-soluble steroid hypnotic: more of the same or something different? The first demonstration of the anaesthetic properties of steroid molecules was in 1927 when Cashin and Moravek produced hypnosis in cats using a colloidal suspension of cholesterol. 1 But it was not until the 1940s that a systematic review was undertaken by Selye into the hypnotic properties of steroids (m...
